CWSS: Common Wadden Sea Secretariat

The CWSS primarily supports and facilitates the Trilateral Wadden Sea Cooperation (TWSC) between Denmark, Germany and the Netherlands. The TWSC is based on the Joint Declaration on the Proteciton of the Wadden Sea, first agreed in the 1980s, and updated in 2010. Based in Wilhelmshaven, Germany, the TWSC underpins the designation of the Wadden Sea as a UNESCO World Heritage site. Its functions include the transboundary scale protection of the Wadden Sea ecosystem, environmental monitoring and assessment, public engagement, and the facilitation of sustainable development. The TWSC also functions as the Secretariat to the CMS Wadden Sea Seals Agreement.
