Summary

The Arctic Contaminants Action Program (ACAP) Secretariat supports the work of the Arctic Contaminants Action Program (ACAP), an action-oriented working group of the Arctic Council dedicated to reducing pollution and preventing environmental risks across the Arctic region. ACAP works with Arctic States, Indigenous Permanent Participants, and international partners to develop and implement practical projects that reduce emissions and releases of harmful contaminants, including persistent organic pollutants (POPs), mercury, black carbon, methane, hazardous waste, marine litter, and microplastics. The Secretariat facilitates coordination, information exchange, project development, and capacity-building activities, helping translate scientific knowledge and policy commitments into concrete actions that protect Arctic ecosystems, improve environmental quality, and safeguard the health and well-being of Arctic communities. Through pilot projects and international collaboration, ACAP also supports the implementation of global environmental agreements relevant to the Arctic
